Kolkata Police has released video evidence to counter allegations surrounding the August 9 Navanna campaign clashes in the city. Addressing a press conference, senior officers presented visuals showing incidents of violence, abuse and attacks on police personnel that took place under the guise of the protest.
Joint CP (Headquarters) Miraj Khalid, Joint CP (Crime) Rupesh Kumar and DC Central Indira Mukherjee jointly addressed the media, stating that the claims circulating on social media were misleading. They said the videos clearly showed protesters assaulting police, damaging property and engaging in abusive behaviour.
Officials stressed that the evidence was being made public to present the facts and ensure transparency. They also appealed to the public not to be swayed by unverified information shared online.
The police leadership reiterated that while the right to protest is respected, violence against law enforcement and public property will not be tolerated.
